There is a great and ancient tree that I look at every day from my office window. It has deep roots and its branches spread majestically, reaching in all directions. Our church is like that, well-rooted in our history and tradition, but also growing and reaching out. We do so in the name of Jesus. My Pastor’s Quarterly Report will soon be mailed out. Since we just finished our End of the Year Report for the conference, it will reveal some interesting statistics. We are trending upwards in many areas. God blessed us with eleven new professing members (full members) in the month of January. They are listed within. Our next How to Join Clarkesville First UMC Luncheon is on Sunday, February 19. The luncheon is being sponsored by the Faith Works Sunday School Class. Thank you for supporting our Hurricane Habersham initiative that gets each class and group focusing on making contacts, enrolling members, and increasing their attendance. The training classes on Wednesday evenings went well. On February 5th, our Connectional Group of seven area UMC churches will meet for a brief time as we are introduced to the Vital Congregations initiative. All who are interested may attend the meeting in the Administrative Building at 5 pm. Church council members are especially invited. Yes, you will be home for the Super Bowl kickoff! The Super Bowl reminds us of our Souper Bowl Sunday on February 5th to support our wonderful community Soup Kitchen ministry. You can leave an offering for the Soup Kitchen at the altar rail during communion, or give as you are leaving. Habersham United Believers is providing a free two-night conference to promote ministry evangelism. It will be held at 6:30 pm, February 23-24, at the Habersham Central High School Gymnasium. Dr. Charles Roesel is the guest speaker. Love in Christ, Brian T. Butler Pastor
